SFERE / EXPLAINED

European Accessibility Act, WCAG and EN 301 549

A legal obligation is not a universal checklist: the applicable scope depends on the product, service and jurisdiction.

European Accessibility Act

EU Directive 2019/882 sets accessibility requirements for specified categories of products and services, including certain e-commerce services. National implementing measures and exceptions require assessment.

WCAG

The W3C publishes the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. WCAG 2.2 offers testable criteria for web content, but passing automated checks is not proof of end-to-end conformity.

EN 301 549

A European standard for ICT accessibility requirements. Verify the relevant edition and legal references for the market and date involved.

Practical review

Test keyboard use, screen readers, contrast, forms, errors, navigation, documents and payment journeys; record reproduction steps and remediations. User testing complements tooling.
