Certification, attestation and internal audit: which term is accurate?

Readiness support does not carry the same assurance as an independent third-party assessment.

Management-system certification

An organisation may obtain certification to an applicable standard such as ISO/IEC 27001 or ISO/IEC 20000-1. Check standard, edition, scope, certification body and validity.

Attestation report

SOC 2 is an assurance engagement under AICPA criteria, not merely a certified logo. The report specifies system scope, period and opinion.

Readiness and gap review

A consultant can assess controls, identify gaps and prepare evidence. This is not itself certification, regulatory audit opinion or legal advice.

Supplier evidence review

Ask for identifier, date, scope, assessor, exclusions and exceptions; do not assume a certificate for one product applies to the entire enterprise.
